About Us
Chartered by the Florida Legislature in 1965, the University opened its doors in 1972 to the largest entering class in United States collegiate history. With strong undergraduate programs centred around a rigorous liberal arts core curriculum, FIU now offers more than 200 baccalaureate, master\'s and doctoral degree programs through its many Colleges and Schools: Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Urban and Public Affairs, Education, Engineering and Design, Health, Hospitality and Management, Journalism and Mass Communication, and Nursing.

To provide quality English Language instruction to all individuals who have chosen English as their medium of communication for academic or profesional pursuits and to promote international and intercultural understanding.
Location (about the region)
Florida International University is located in culturally rich Miami. At the south-eastern tip of the United States, just north of Latin America and on the threshold of the Carribean, in recent years Miami has become a global crossroads for business and entertainment, from banking and shipping industries to the world of film and fashion.
Session Length and Program Hours
Regular sessions are 10 to 14 weeks long and provide 25 hours of clasroom, tutoring, and laboratory instruuction per week in the full intensive program.
Levels
The ELI has six levels of instruction: I (Beginner), II (Low Intermediate), III (Intermediate), IV (High Intermediate), V (Low Advanced), and VI (Advanced).
Class Size
An average of 12-16 students are assigned to each class.
Faculty Qualifications
All our full-time classroom instructors are members of the University's faculty. They are native speakers, hold master's degrees in English as a Second Language or Applied Linguistics, and have extensive training and experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). latest movie review serenity movie review
Students' Countries of Origin
We serve over 1,300 students each year from 40 countries. Approximately 33% are Asian, 48% South American, 10% Middle Eastern, 6% European, 2% African, and 1% North American.

Conditional Admissions
Conditional admission (Special Student Status) to the Universtity's undergraduate degree program is based on the academic record of the applicant and an entry score of 490 on the TOEFL.
Admission/Transfer Advising
The Director and Academic Coordinator advise students on how to apply for admission to Florida International University as well as other universities.
