What is UCIEP

UCIEPis a consortium of 67 university- and college-governed intensive English programs (IEPs) in the United States. Established in 1967 by leaders in the field of English as a second language, UCIEP's mission is to promote excellence in IEP administration, curriculum, and instruction by (1) establishing guidelines for member programs, (2) encouraging and sponsoring professional development as well as cooperation and communication among member programs, and (3) and advocating on behalf of member programs, the organization, and the field of teaching English as a second language.

  • Participation on the UCIEP listserve
  • No-fee registration for UCIEP-sponsored workshops at NAFSA conferences
  • Participation in the annual UCIEP retreat
  • Presence in the UCIEP Members Profiles book
  • Presence on the UCIEP web page www.uciep.org
  • Sponsorship of UCIEP grants to support research in the field and travel to NAFSA by OSEAS advisors

Obligations of Membership:

  • Payment of annual dues (currently $500)
  • Attendance at annual UCIEP Business Meeting (held during the UCIEP Conference in February) or at the UCIEP General Meeting (held during the NAFSA-AIE conference in May)
  • Continued compliance with the UCIEP Guidelines (as determined by a mandatory self study process every five years)

Institutional membership in NAFSA

Membership Process:

  • Complete the UCIEP Prospective Member Questionnaire and supply requested supporting documentation
  • Undergo on-site visit to verify conformance to UCIEP Guidelines (conducted at applicant program's expense)
